EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE CONSULTING THAT TURNS ENGINEERS INTO MANAGERS

Certifications and experience are foundational to success, but a lack of communication skills can act as a glass ceiling.

Let’s talk about your concerns, objectives and strategies to help you take the next step in your career!

EI AND IT SECURITY

Security is responsible for authoring the security policies that your organization adheres by, but relies on operational teams to push patches and implement said policies.

What if we could view our peers as an extra set of eyes and ears who we can rely on as opposed to strangers that don’t ever seem to grasp the severity of the situation or act with any sense of urgency?

What if we replaced ‘Never Trust. Verify.’

with ‘Always Question and Ensure.’ ?

GENUINE COOPERATION WITH SECURITY ALLOWS BUSINESS TO BE CONDUCTED MINDFULLY WHICH IS KEY TO PREVENTING TODAY’S CYBER ATTACKS

LISTENING

The first step to being the best communicator and leader you can is to listen to others with sincere intent. To fix problems, you must understand them first by gathering as much information from as many different perspectives as possible. Your team-members are your nerves which transmit messages up the hierarchy as necessary. You must know the stove is hot to then move your hand away quickly!

ATTITUDE

As a leader, your aura alone will set the tone and provide expectations on how to think, speak and behave at work. Remember that this will have a ripple effect on everyone from you employees to their families after they go home for the day.

BRAND

Having ethos as a a leader is crucial to your ability to influence and inspire. This provides context for everything you say and can be your greatest ally at work. Let’s ensure you’re using your personal brand to your advantage!

VISION

The ability to inspire others comes from sharing your vision of a better future and demonstrating how each individual’s objectives align with those of the group. Once goals have been effectively communicated, it is up to you to establish the sense of urgency that will lead to collective success. Allow them to get just as excited as you are by your master plan!

AN OPEN MIND

What good is listening and ingesting new information if you are unwilling to change your mind? Traditional top-down management tactics are great for compliance and physical labor, but stifle creativity, mindfulness and personal growth. We must empower our employees to want to work and grow with us in a field where talent is scarce. Intrinsic motivation and thinking outside-the-box can often times yield the best results.

TRUST

Being able to have faith in your team is a result of putting everyone in a position to succeed and knowing how to avoid micro-managing. Communication, as opposed to trying to do everything yourself, is the key to ensuring the job is completed up to your standards!

TIME UTILIZATION

In one recent survey, examining cases of unauthorized exposure of regulated data (such as protected health information or credit card numbers), 92 percent of incidents and 84 percent of breaches were due to “inadvertent” or “unintentional” actions. It’s reality: we’re all human, and we make mistakes.

MAKE CHANGE PART OF YOUR CULTURE

Using an empathetic approach, we can understand that additional scrutiny while doing your job and having to record data (which may be used to eliminate the need for your job entirely) can be quite stressful. People are naturally resistant to change.

It is important to keep your coworkers inspired and knowing they are a vital part of the company. Your project must be seen as an opportunity for them to move up within the organization (as opposed to a threat) if we find a more efficient way of completing the process that does not involve them.

EI AND LEAN SIX SIGMA PROCESSES

While leading a Lean Six Sigma project, one must identify all stakeholders and realize how each person’s role fits into the bigger picture.

Data is crucial during these projects, but often times, we will have to rely on others to help us assess the situation and gather data such as cycle time. It is important to ensure the process'-leads and those in charge of data collection have bought into the project or it will be destined to fail from the start.

More important than the actual improvements that individuals contribute, the true value of continuous improvement is in creating an atmosphere of continuous learning and an environment that not only accepts, but actually embraces change. Such an environment can only be created where there is respect for people.
